Master of Science (Mathematics)

The Master of Science (Mathematics) consists of two years of full-time study. Students entering with a bachelor degree in the same discipline will be eligible to apply to follow a 54-unit pathway.
 

The course has flexibility to allow you to choose topics that both complement and extend your undergraduate studies. It offers studies in all areas of the mathematical sciences, with an emphasis on modern applied mathematics. You can select studies in areas such as methods of applied mathematics, complex analysis, partial differential equations and statistical science.
 

The masters project is normally taken in the final two semesters and helps you develop research, communication and technical skills. An in-depth investigation of a particular area is completed under the guidance of a supervisor.

Applicants must normally hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent in mathematics or statistics or a closely related discipline from an approved institution. Applicants with an approved degree that contains substantial mathematics or statistics (equivalent to at least first-year level mathematics topics at Flinders) are also eligible to apply. The Master of Science is not available to students who hold an honours degree in the same discipline.
 

International students must satisfy our English language proficiency requirements for admission. If your first language is not English you will need to have:
 

• Achieved the required test score for the course you are applying for. The IELTS and equivalent scores to meet the various levels #. IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Cambridge tests must be taken in a registered testing centre.; or
• Successfully completed an approved secondary or tertiary qualification, taught in the English language in a country where English is the official language or the main language spoken (for up to an overall IELTS of 6.5) with evidence no more than five years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or
• Successfully completed a pre-course English program from an approved ELICOS Provider*.

Annual fees:  $38,000

This course provides students with specialist knowledge that can be applied in a range of employment areas such as business and finance, data science, environment, health, insurance and logistics.
