Graduate Certificate in Society and the Individual

at Flinders University

The program teaches you to understand Australian society, how it has developed and is organised. You will also develop the skills to apply psychological and sociological understandings of human development.
 

You will learn the cultural context of various approaches and their relevance to specific situations affecting vulnerable populations, and to delineate the connections between interpersonal practice, social policy and research.
 

Year 1

• Introduction to Australian Health and Human Services
• Professional and Practice Ethics
• What is Australian Society? Historical and Contemporary Opportunities and Challenges
• Theories of Life in Contemporary Society

Applicants for the graduate certificate must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification in any relevant discipline of science or engineering from an approved tertiary institution.
 

International students must satisfy our English language proficiency requirements for admission. If your first language is not English you will need to have:
 

• Achieved the required test score for the course you are applying for. The IELTS and equivalent scores to meet the various levels #. IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Cambridge tests must be taken in a registered testing centre.; or
• Successfully completed an approved secondary or tertiary qualification, taught in the English language in a country where English is the official language or the main language spoken (for up to an overall IELTS of 6.0) with evidence no more than five years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or
• Successfully completed a pre-course English program from an approved ELICOS Provider*.

Annual fees:  $17,250

The course is designed to boost your professional career in the Australian human service and welfare sectors. It may be used as a pathway to the Master of Social Work (Graduate Entry) to secure a position as a social worker.
