Wilmington University is a non-profit, private doctoral research university. It was founded in 1968 with a charter class of 194 students. The university is located in New Castle, Delaware, USA. In 2007, this university was renamed Wilmington University. It offers a variety of courses for bachelor's, master's, associate, and other doctorate and research degrees. The university offers over 200 programmes and caters to students' preferences in areas such as art, communication, business, management, education, finance, health, and human services, among others. Over 20,000 students are enrolled at the university. White students make up 51% of the enrollment, while Asians, African Americans, Hispanics, and American Indians make up the remaining 49%. The university has a 17:1 student-faculty ratio.

This university has campuses in New Castle, the Wilson Graduate Center, Brandywine, Dover, the Dover Air Force Base, and Georgetown in the U.S. state of Delaware. Wilmington university has campuses in the counties of Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Mercer, and Salem in the state of New Jersey. More than 80-degree programmes at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels are offered on the main campus. The Pratt Student Center, which was built on the main campus in New Castle and opened in 2013, in addition to classroom facilities, is a former university gymnasium that was extensively renovated. The Wilson Graduate Center, where the majority of the university's graduate and doctoral degree programmes are offered in northern Delaware, is also located in New Castle.

The university has a large number of athletic facilities. At the Wilmington University Athletics Complex, students can work out in the training room and participate in sports like basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball. It also has a softball field known as Asbury Field. It has a golf course, Back Creek Golf Club, and Carousel Park.
