About
Washington State University was founded as a public land-grant research university in 1890. The main campus is home to about 31,000 students. The institution has 1,910 overseas students from 106 different countries. As a National Academic member, it provides 95 undergraduate majors and 100 in-major specialisations. There are also 79 master's degree programs, 65 doctorate degree programs, and three professional degree programs available. WSU has 11 colleges and one graduate school and provides over 700 scholarship opportunities. There are over 565 Study-Abroad programs, and 30% of the student body is multicultural.
Students must note that the Washington State University acceptance rate stands at 79.9% which makes it a moderately selective institution. The campus site is stretched across 620 acres of land. It was designed and built by the well-known architect Paul Thiry in the Neo-Georgian style. Thompson Hall, Steven Hall, and Bryan Hall are the three halls on campus. These are the oldest structures on the campus. The College of Arts and Sciences and the Foreign Language Department is housed in Thompson Hall. Members of the university faculty have been chosen for membership in the National Academies, the country's highest scientific honour.
