Washington and Jefferson College is a private liberal arts college located in Washington, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1781 as Washington Academy, making it one of the oldest colleges in the country. The college is named after two of America's founding fathers, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Facilities
The college's campus is situated in Washington and East Washington Borough, two small-town villages about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh. With over 40 academic, administrative, recreational, and residential facilities located on this 60-acre site.
Library - The Clark Family Library is the main library at the college. The library is named after the Clark family, which has a long history of supporting the college. The library's collection includes print volumes, as well as numerous electronic resources, such as databases, e-books, and e-journals. The library also houses special collections, including the College Archives, the Proudfit Collection of rare books, and the Mellon Collection of British and American Literature.
Dining Facilities - W&J Dining manages three campus dining establishments: The Commons Café, G&T's Grill, and X'Prez'O. It includes quality, freshness, consistency, exposure to different cuisines, healthy options, dietary modifications, and food education which are all important factors in the college's cafeterias. The Commons Café is the primary cafeteria, with a range of food stations offering fresh and healthy options, as well as a wood-fired brick oven for preparing distinctive pizza and pasta meals.
On-campus residence - The college provides "Theme Community Living," in which students with similar interests share a single housing unit. The Pet House, housed in Monroe Hall on Presidents' Row, enables students to raise their pets while attending school. Students may bring cats, small dogs, small birds, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and fish, but not all types of pets. Whitworth Hall and Wade Hall are two historic Victorian houses that are used as women's dorms and are slightly separated from the other dormitories.
