Virginia Tech (also known as VT, VA Tech, or VPI) is a public university located in Blacksburg, Virginia founded in 1872. It was previously known as the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the early days. A research center is located in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and there are study-abroad locations in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland, as well as educational institutions spread over six areas of the state.

There are 28 residence halls on the VT campus that house both undergraduate and graduate students, and several more are either being planned for or are already under construction.
