Vermont State Colleges suggested closing the Vermont Technical College residential campus in Randolph and Northern Vermont University in April 2020. Following public outcry, the Vermont State Colleges announced that Vermont Technical College and its four-year sister colleges would be merged into the new united Vermont State University in 2023. It has campuses in the Southeast Region, the Central Region, the Northeast Kingdom Region, the Northwest Region, and the Southwest Region. The college's main campus is located on 544 acres in Randolph Center, surrounded by beautiful scenery. The classrooms are tiny, with an average of more than 14 students.
