About

The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD or UT Dallas) is a public research university located in Richardson, Texas. It is the most northern university in the University of Texas system and one of the bigger public universities in the Dallas area. UTD was initially established in 1961 as a separate Texas Instruments research division for students.

Since its foundation, this young institution has been distinguished by its competitive undergraduate admissions policies and rapid development in research output. Faster than any other institution in Texas, the university was designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral research university with "Highest Research Activity" less than 47 years after it was founded. The institution includes four Nobel Prize winners on its faculty, as well as members of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering. The most prestigious research areas of the university are space science, bioengineering, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, and behavioural and brain sciences. Almost 50 research centres and institutes are housed at the university, which has seven schools and more than 140 academic programmes available

The college fields 14 collegiate teams in Division III of the American Southwest Conference, including a co-ed varsity Esports programme that is well-known nationwide. The university also recruits from all over the world for its Top 4 collegiate chess teams. Although Richardson is the official city in charge of the main campus, one-third of it is located inside Dallas County. The Crow Museum of Asian Art in the Arts District and several structures, including the Center for BrainHealth, the Center for Vital Longevity, and the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, in the Medical District next to UT Southwestern, are all run by UTD.
