About

The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth) is an institution of higher education and health science center located in Houston, Texas. UTHealth is a comprehensive academic health university and is a part of the University of Texas System. It was founded in 1972 and is made up of six schools: the School of Biomedical Informatics, the School of Dentistry, the School of Health Professions, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, and the School of Public Health.

 

The UTHealth School of Medicine is one of the most prominent and respected medical schools in the United States. It is known for its research in a wide variety of fields, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, genetics, and neuroscience. The School of Nursing is also highly ranked, and offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as a number of specialized programs, such as the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and the Executive Nurse Practitioner Program.

 

UTHealth is also home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical centers in the world, and the Center for Space Medicine, which conducts research on the effects of space travel on human health. Additionally, the Health Science Center is also affiliated with several academic hospitals across the city of Houston.

Ranking

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is consistently ranked highly in various health sciences disciplines. In the 2024 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "Best Global Universities" list, it was ranked #269.  The school's programs in epidemiology, health policy and management, and environmental and occupational health sciences were also ranked highly. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is a public academic health science center located in Houston, Texas. The library at UTHealth is called the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center (HRHRC) Library. McGovern Campus, near the main entrance. The cafeteria, called Common Grounds, offers a variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including hot entrees, sandwiches, salads, and a salad bar. The cafeteria also has a grill, deli, and bakery section. In addition to Common Grounds, there are other dining options on the UTHealth campus, including a Starbucks and a vending area.

Acceptance Rate

The University of Texas Health Science Center acceptance rate is 63% for international students. This is an extremely stringent entry rate, and students should focus on high scores and grades. The university is highly diverse when it comes to admission policy and sees at least 20% Asian, 19% Hispanic and 11% Black or African American students.

 

University of Texas Health Science Center Entry Requirements

Whether you're a first-time applicant to the University of Texas Health Science Center, an undergraduate student seeking advanced status, or a returning student re-enrolling after a break, the admissions standards are the same for all applicants. Students wishing to be admitted to the University of Texas Health Science Center must make a mandatory application fee payment of $60 which is non-refundable. International students need to have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.75 on a minimum average scale of 4.0. Each applicant must provide the following:

The Outstanding New Student Scholarship is a competitive program open to incoming resident and non-resident students who submit their applications by December 1 for enrollment in the following fall semester.
