About

The University of Sciences is a private university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1821 and is the first college of pharmacy in North America. 

The University of the Sciences dates back to February 1821, when 68 herbalists gathered in Philadelphia's Carpenters' Hall to enhance scientific standards and devise programmes to teach more students about medicine. They incorporated their new organisation with a constitution that stated their intention to build a pharmacy school. 

 

The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in a variety of health sciences fields, including pharmacy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, biomedical sciences, and health policy. There are 19 Bachelor of Science degree programmes, 15 master’s degrees, 8 certificates and 11 doctoral programmes. There are 3 colleges through which this university offers its courses:

The USciences campus spans around 24 acres of the urban landscape west of Philadelphia, which also includes the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. It is bounded on one side by Clark Park and on the other by The Woodlands, which is a major urban park with walking and biking trails. There are 23 structures on campus, including academic halls, laboratories, specialized residence halls, open areas, and athletic venues.  Some other facilities include -

 

The Marvin Samson Centre for the History of Pharmacy - This centre houses artefacts, artefacts, and archives related to pharmacology, pharmaceutical production, and pharmacy practice, as well as the history of the university. Its permanent collection includes everything from ceramic and glass apothecary jars, medicine preparation tools and instruments to pharmacy and drug advertising materials. The Samson Centre now houses Wyeth Pharmaceuticals' artefacts and archives. 

 

Library - The J. W. England Library at the university opened its doors in 1821. This library's collection is modest but specialised, with a focus on pharmacy, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutics, and foreign drug compendia. Toxicology, pharmacology, and physical therapy are some of the other fields of knowledge. The library has over 470,000 volumes in all, with a yearly circulation of about 5,680. 

 

On-campus Residence - The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia includes three student living halls that accommodate single and double occupancy. Osol Hall, Wilson Hall, and Living and Learning Commons are the residence halls offered to students. Residence halls offer study places, laundry facilities, TV lounges, game rooms, vending machines, kitchens, and 24-hour security, among other amenities. First and second-year students that are under the age of 21 are required to live on campus. Every year, approximately 450 students choose to reside on campus.
