About

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) is the health sciences campus of the University of Oklahoma located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is a comprehensive academic health centre that was established in 1971. The Oklahoma Territorial Legislature established the University of Oklahoma in Norman in 1890, which was 17 years before Oklahoma became a state. The budding two-year medical programme at OU relocated to Oklahoma City in 1910 and expanded to a four-year course of study. 


 

The OUHSC is made up of several colleges, including the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the College of Dentistry, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Public Health, and the Graduate College. The OUHSC also operates several major hospitals and clinics, including the OU Medical Center and the Children's Hospital. The total enrollment recorded in the Fall of 2022 was 3,388 students in bachelor, master, research, and certificate programmes. 

 

It offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programmes in the health sciences, including medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health. The OUHSC is also a major centre for biomedical research, with a particular focus on areas such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. In all, there are over 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes under seven health professional colleges.

Facilities

Some of the major facilities on campus are The OU Medical Center hospital complex, The Children's Hospital, OU Physicians and OU Children's Physicians clinics, Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, and the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center. The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center is also among the primary clinical facilities.
 

Housing Facilities 

OUHSC does not provide traditional on-campus housing for undergraduate or graduate students. However, the university does provide a number of resources to help students find suitable off-campus housing options. OUHSC's Office of Student Affairs provides information on off-campus housing options, including apartment and house rentals, as well as resources for roommate matching. Additionally, many local apartment complexes and housing options offer discounts or special rates for OUHSC students. 

 

Library Facilities 

The main library serving the health sciences campus is the Harold Hamm Oklahoma Diabetes Center (HHODC) Library. The HHODC Library is a biomedical library that serves the needs of the students, faculty, staff, and researchers of the OU Health Sciences Center. The library provides access to a wide range of electronic resources, including journals, databases, e-books, and other electronic resources. 

 

Dining Facilities

The main dining facility on campus is the OU Medical Center Food Court which serves the OU Medical Center community and it is the main dining hall for students and staff.

The Food Court features a variety of food options including sandwiches, burgers, pizza, salads, and home-style entrees, as well as a salad bar, and a dessert bar. The menu changes daily, and the food court also offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
