About

The University of North Georgia is a public university located in the state of Georgia, United States. It was established in 2013 through a consolidation of North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU) and Gainesville State College (GSC). The university has 3 campuses in Dahlonega, Oconee and Gainesville, the main one being in Dahlonega. Since 1873, the Dahlonega Campus, located on the slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, has been assisting students in achieving their full potential. With approximately 800 cadets in their award-winning Army ROTC programme stationed here, UNG is one of just six senior military institutions in the country.

 

It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programmes in various fields, including Business, Education, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Mathematics, and Military Science. It is known for its strong emphasis on leadership development, global awareness, and civic engagement. There are 140 programmes which include 50 bachelor’s degrees and 13 postgraduate degrees.

 

The university has a diverse student body, with students from over 60 countries represented on campus. The university offers various programmes and resources to support students, including academic advising, career services, tutoring, and counselling services. It also has a strong athletics programme, with teams competing at the NCAA Division II level. Facilities

The university has 200 student organisations on all of its campuses that accommodate students' diverse interests. These organisations are academic, service, faith-based, military, leadership-based, and so on. Sports clubs and honour societies are also available. It has 13 sporting teams that participate in NCAA Division II. Nigel, the nighthawk, is the mascot of the athletic teams. There are  International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) of the Global Engagement Centre aid which serves UNG international students, making their academic life more convenient. It also offers form updates, healthcare, and job services.

 

On-campus Residence - The university has residence facilities at the main Dahlonega campus. They include three Traditional Halls, three Suites and one Apartment. Some of these halls are Donovan Hall (Traditional Hall), Lewis Annex (Traditional Hall), North Georgia (Suites), The Commons (Suites), Patriot Hall (Suites) and Owen Hall (Apartment). 

 

Library - Dahlonega campus has a library which is a resource centre that provides academic support to the campus community, including students, faculty, and staff. The library is located in the heart of the campus and offers a wide range of services and resources to support research, learning, and teaching. The library's collection includes books, journals, and multimedia resources, as well as access to a vast array of online databases and resources. The library also provides access to special collections and archives, including the William Pierce Papers and the Appalachian Studies Centre.

 

Dining Services - The Dahlonega campus has a bunch of eateries which satisfy students, staff and faculty’s nutritional needs. At Chow House Diner, they have late-night services which feature breakfast all day and traditional hand-spun milkshakes. Twisted Taco is a Mexican Cantina with an American fusion. Wide Blue is for Asian food lovers and serves beef and pork dishes, wok-tossed with veggies and sauces.
