About
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is a public conservatory for the arts located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States. It was established in 1963 by the North Carolina General Assembly and opened in 1965 as the first state-supported conservatory in the United States. It has a rigorous and competitive admissions process, and the student body is relatively small, with around 1,348 students out of which 278 are high school students, 920 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. It has an acceptance rate of 32.6%.
UNCSA offers undergraduate and graduate programmes in dance, design and production, drama, filmmaking, and music. It also has a high school programme for gifted students in the arts. In all, there are 30 undergraduate courses and 24 postgraduate programmes. - The school also has a modern workout centre with a full-size gymnasium, a 4,200-square-foot weight room, an Aerobics studio, and an exclusive Abs/Stretching space.
- The Library and Learning Commons, which opened in 2015, include substantial collections in the performing and visual arts, including play, dance, music, cinema, design, and production. The library also covers basic books on history, literature, and all other liberal arts subjects.
- Hanes Students Commons is a gathering place for students to get meals, eat, and socialise. It has three on-campus dining alternatives.
