The University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss, is a public research university located in Oxford, Mississippi. It was founded in 1848 and is the largest university in the state of Mississippi. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
On February 24, 1844, the Mississippi Legislature established the University of Mississippi. Architects chose a secluded, rural location in Oxford to foster academic studies. Homeowners of Lafayette County agreed to donate land west of Oxford for the campus in 1845, and the very next year, architect William Nichols supervised the construction of the Lyceum, two dormitories, and faculty residences. On November 6, 1848, the university opened its doors to its first class of 80 students, providing a classical curriculum.
Ole Miss offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including liberal arts, business, education, engineering, law, and nursing. Six sites, including five regional campuses in De Soto, Tupelo, Booneville, Grenada, and Jackson, house the University of Mississippi. Students wishing to be admitted to CSU must make a mandatory application fee payment of 75 USD for undergraduates and 95 USD for graduates.
