About

The University of Massachusetts Amherst, also known as UMass Amherst or UMass, is the only public land-grant university in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is located in Amherst, Massachusetts. Founded in 1863, it was the first campus established in the University of Massachusetts system as an agricultural college. It is also the largest and flagship campus. Along with four other colleges from the Pioneer Valley, it is a part of the five colleges consortium: Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, and Hampshire College. The university is one of the R1: Doctoral Universities, which means that its research has a high level of activity.

 

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is a premier research university with over 28,000 students from 85 countries and 49 states. The university has ten schools and colleges that offer over 100 undergraduate majors, 78 master's programmes, and 48 doctoral programmes.
