Overview
About
The University of Findlay is a private university in Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1882 by a collaboration of the Churches of God, General Conference, and the city of Findlay. Only three years after beginning their studies in Old Main, the first graduating class of Findlay College, one man and one woman, received their diplomas in June 1889. Their graduation marked the completion of a process that began in 1881, when the Churches of God, General Conference, considered establishing a college in northwest Ohio.
By 1897, the college had amassed a more than $100,000 endowment and had sixteen faculty members. Findlay College was renamed the University of Findlay in 1989. The campus, which was still affiliated with the Church of God, began a construction campaign, adding five new buildings over the next few years. By the turn of the century, the university had sixty-five different undergraduate programmes and eight graduate programmes. The university is particularly well-known for its equestrian studies programme, which includes varsity equestrian riding. Davis Street was expanded in 2012 to house the university's newly established pharmacy programme.
The University of Findlay established the first bachelor's degree programme in hazardous waste studies, which is now known as environmental, safety, and occupational health management. The All Hazards Training Center, which grew out of that initial programme, has provided hands-on training simulations to over 100,000 people from various backgrounds, including industry leaders and government officials involved in emergency planning, response, and recovery.
The University of Findlay enrols 3,300 students, including 2,200 undergraduates and 1,100 graduate students. It grants 80 bachelor's degrees, 11 master's degrees, and four doctoral degrees. Animal Science, Pharmacy, Business, Master of Arts in Professional Communication, and Master of Arts in Teaching are among the popular courses available at the University. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and national accrediting organizations in athletic training, business, environmental health science and protection, intensive English language, nuclear medicine technology, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, social work, strength and conditioning, and teacher education.
The University of Findlay Alumni Association hosts events throughout the year, providing alumni with numerous opportunities for career networking as well as supporting their alma mater and cheering on their favourite teams. An alumnus can also get discounts at the campus cardio centre, bookstore, diner, and several other local and national retailers. Ralph D. Cole, Joanie Dodds, Harold Jones Quartey, Tim Beckman, Charlie Parker, Waylon Lowe, Bob Wortman, Stacey Westfall, and John W. Gabriel are among the university's notable alumni.
