The University of Notre Dame was established in November 1842 by Rev. Edward F. Sorin, C.S.C., a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, a French missionary organisation. It is adjacent to South Bend, Indiana, the heart of a metropolitan region. Notre Dame has been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission.
