Overview

About

Syracuse University also known as "Cuse" or "SU," is a private research university located in Syracuse, New York. The university, which had Methodist Episcopal Church roots when it was founded in 1870, became nonsectarian in 1920. The sprawling campus, which is east and southeast of downtown Syracuse in the city's University Hill area, is characterised by a diverse range of architectural styles, from twentieth-century modern structures to nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival structures.

Few universities are as firmly connected with colour as Syracuse University. The Daily Orange, a student-run newspaper, and CitrusTV, a television studio, are two examples of the vibrant orange that is associated with campus life. Otto the Orange, the school mascot, supports the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference-playing Orange sports teams as they compete. The only dome stadium in the Northeast, Carrier Dome is home to the football team. According to the most recent statistics, the university has more than 22,850 students enrolled at once from all 50 states and 127 other countries. Approximately 15,000 of them are engaged in undergraduate studies, while 7,000 are in postgraduate programmes. More than 1,800 people work on the university's academic staff. It is worth noting that the Syracuse University acceptance rate stands at 8.8% making it a competitive university for students.

The institution is categorised as one of the "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity" institutions. Three Nobel Prize winners, one Fields Medalist, 36 Olympic medalists, 13 Pulitzer Prize winners, multiple Academy Award winners, two Rhodes Scholars, and four Marshall Scholars are among the alumni and affiliations. Twenty collegiate sports are played by the Orange athletic teams from Syracuse University. With the exception of the men's rowing and women's ice hockey teams, all NCAA Division I athletics at SU compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference or ACC. The Eastern College Athletic Conference has SU as a member.
