About

Southern Illinois University is a public, coeducational university in Carbondale and Edwardsville, Illinois, the United States. Southern Illinois Normal University was founded and granted a charter in 1869. It expanded to become one of the state's biggest teacher education institutions. The university changed its name to Southern Illinois University in 1947 after starting to provide graduate-level coursework in 1943. In 1959, the first PhD was granted. The university established two academic centers in East St. Louis and Alton in 1957. The Edwardsville campus, which was established in 1965 and is situated on bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, was founded as a result of the success of these centers.

 

There are many different bachelor's, master's, doctorate, and professional degree programs available at the campuses in Carbondale and Edwardsville. The main campus in Carbondale is made up of three schools, a law school, and eight colleges. Additionally, it runs a medical school with main sites in Carbondale and Springfield. The School of Dental Medicine in Alton is one of six schools and one college that make up the Edwardsville branch. The Center for Archaeological Investigations, the Fisheries and Illinois Aquaculture Center, the Coal Research Center, the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, and the Materials Technology Center are among the research facilities in Carbondale. More than 2.5 million books, including a famous collection on philosopher John Dewey, are housed in the Morris Library. Southern Illinois University Entry Requirements
