In Fairfield, Connecticut, Sacred Heart University, also referred to as the SHU, is a private Roman Catholic institution of higher learning that was established in 1963. The University was the first Catholic university in America to employ laypeople. Over 70 degree programmes are available, and the academic calendar is based on semesters. Five colleges make up SHU: Jack Welch College of Business, College of Health Professions, College of Nursing, Isabelle Farrington College of Education, School of Communication & Media Arts, and School of Computing. The West Campus of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, the site of the old global headquarters of General Electric, offers about 66 acres, 550,000 square feet of building space, and 800 more parking places. The new West Campus serves as the campus of innovation and provides expansion for the College of Education, the College of Business & Technology, and the School of Computer Science & Engineering.
