Overview

About

Rowan University (RU) is a public research university located in Glassboro, New Jersey, with academic and medical campuses in Camden and Stratford. Glassboro Normal School was established there in 1923 on a 25-acre land that was donated by 107 locals. Since its establishment in 1923, RU has developed from a teacher preparation school into a thriving regional university that is listed by US News & World Report as one of the top public universities in the North. Rowan University's acceptance rate stands at 84% with more than 19,000 students attending the university today, and they can select from more than 90 Bachelor's degree programs, more than 50 Master's degree programs, 9 Doctoral programs, and 2 Professional programs. The university is one of just 56 colleges and universities in the nation offering approved business, education, engineering, and medical programs. It is listed as belonging to the category "R2: Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity".

In New Jersey, there was a dearth of teachers with the necessary training in the early 20th century. In order to buck the trend, it was decided to construct a two-year Normal school in the southern region of the state. Among the potential communities, Glassboro was chosen in large part because of its convenient access to a passenger train and its offer to give the state 25 acres of the property so that a Normal school could be built there. In 1935 and 1944, respectively, the college was among the first in the nation to start programs for instructors with reading impairments and physical rehabilitation.

By being inclusive, adaptable, and responsive, the university has set a new standard for higher education. It provides a variety of scholarly and creative educational opportunities, pathways, environments, and services to meet the needs of all students. It also keeps its adaptability by strategically distributing organizational capacity throughout the institution.

The Whit, Venue, and Avant are the three main magazines on the campus. The Whit is a weekly publication that follows the pattern of a traditional newspaper, with the exception of when exams are in session. A more "alternative" journal, Venue is uncensored and focuses on humor and campus perspectives. The venue was a strongly political journal when it was first founded in 1968 and only afterwards adjusted its format. The venue is totally student-run and publishes four full-color issues each year. In the literary magazine Avant, which is run by students, poems, short tales, pictures, and other works of art are collected. Each year, the autumn and spring issues of Avant are published.

Rowan has an award-winning radio station Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM in addition to print publications. The station debuted in 1964 with a $6,000 budget. Additionally, students at RU have access to 24-hour programming through the student-run closed-circuit television channel Rowan Television Network (RTN). 11 student-produced television programs, other sports-related content, and coverage of current events on campus make up RTN at the moment.

Fees

The Cost of Attendance (COA), mandated by Congress, represents the typical annual cost of attendance (fall through spring). The COA contains a budget for accommodation and board, transportation, personal expenses, books and supplies, and tuition and fees. Every year, colleges modify the COA to account for changes in these expenditures. Several official COAs are produced by colleges to reflect variations in living expenses (on-campus, off-campus, or at home) and in-state versus out-of-state tuition. Depending on student’s own expenses, involvement in extracurricular activities, and travel costs and course fees the real cost of attendance may differ from the official COA. All types of aid, including loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study programs, are included in this. The COA has an impact on the level of financial need as well.
