Program Overview

Urban Studies involves the interdisciplinary study of metropolitan areas. Drawing mainly on the social sciences and humanities, it explores the origins, growth, economics, politics, and social fabric of cities, and focuses on the many sorts of problems and challenges they face—such as poverty, segregation, homelessness, and pollution. The program introduces students to critical theory and urban policy analysis, and trains them in a mix of practical research, community-building, and report-writing skills that empower them as urban professionals and citizens. Entry Requirement
Undergraduate admission is based on high school grades, academic program, and SAT or ACT scores. Successful candidates have at least a B+ average in a well-rounded program of study that includes academic course work in math (3 years), English (4 years), lab science (2 years), social studies (4 years), and foreign language (3 years). New York State GED recipients may apply to Queens College if they earn a score of 3500 or better on the equivalency exam and corresponding high school units. Applicants who are not native English speakers should submit their scores on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). English requirement: a minimum TOEFL of 500.
