Program Overview

Religious Studies involves the interdisciplinary investigation of religious concerns throughout history and around the world. Religions are studied as text, experience, practice, and theology. Coursework explores themes and questions in comparative religion; religion, literature, and the arts; religion and culture; and religion and philosophy.The program draws on multiple disciplines, including anthropology, art, history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and language and literature. Students are encouraged to study relevant ancient and medieval works in the original classical Chinese, classical Arabic, biblical Hebrew, and Latin.

Entry Requirement
Undergraduate admission is based on high school grades, academic program, and SAT or ACT scores. Successful candidates have at least a B+ average in a well-rounded program of study that includes academic course work in math (3 years), English (4 years), lab science (2 years), social studies (4 years), and foreign language (3 years). New York State GED recipients may apply to Queens College if they earn a score of 3500 or better on the equivalency exam and corresponding high school units. Applicants who are not native English speakers should submit their scores on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). English requirement: a minimum TOEFL of 500.
