Overview
About
Princeton University is a private Ivy League research university in Princeton, New Jersey. One of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country, it was established in 1746 and was transferred to its current location in New Jersey in 1896. Princeton is well-known for its stunning campus landscaping as well as the architectural beauty of some of its iconic structures, like the Lewis Library, which was created by Frank Gehry. International students are 12% of the university population.
This Ivy League university provides a variety of events, activities, and organizations inside the boundaries of its storied, ivy-covered campus. The men's and women's lacrosse teams for the Ivy League's Princeton Tigers are renowned for their unwavering excellence. While first-year and second-year students reside in one of seven residential colleges that offer housing and dining options, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to join one of more than ten eating clubs. It is worth noting that the Princeton University acceptance rate stands at a mere 5.6% making it a highly competitive institution to get admissions.
Princeton's School of Engineering and Applied Science and Princeton School of Public and International Affairs both offer highly regarded graduate degrees. One distinctive feature of Princeton's academic program is the requirement that all undergraduate students complete a senior thesis, or for students in some engineering disciplines, an independent project. Woodrow Wilson, Brooke Shields, a model and actress, and Michelle Obama, a former first lady are all alumni of this prestigious university. According to a myth at Princeton, if a student leaves the campus through FitzRandolph Gate before graduating, they might be cursed to never receive their diploma.
Some of the monumental incidents have taken place at its popular campus; the Continental Congress officially thanked General George Washington for leading the American Revolution in Nassau Hall at Princeton in 1783. James Madison and Woodrow Wilson, both of whom served as president of the United States of America from 1902 to 1910, both received their degrees from Princeton.
