About
Northwest Missouri State University is a public university in Maryville, Missouri. It was established in 1905 as a teacher's college, and today it serves as the official Missouri State Arboretum. The campus was modelled after Forest Park at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The school is run by Interim President Clarence Green under the direction of a Board of Regents nominated by the state. President Dr John Jasinski serves as the president of the state-appointed Board of Regents that oversees the institution. With more than 120 undergraduate majors, 18 pre-professional programs, 73 minors, 40 graduate programs, five graduate certificate programs, three certificate programs, and three specialised programs available, it follows a trimester-based academic calendar. There are eleven departments and schools in the Northwest.
In 1917, students at Northwest Missouri State University published the inaugural Tower Yearbook. The Tower yearbooks are available in digital form through 2009. Since 1926, the weekly student newspaper known as the Northwest Missourian has won awards. There are also the Division of Behavioral Sciences and the Division of Health & Wellness.
