Monmouth University is a private university located in West Long Branch, New Jersey and has been serving students since 1933. Monmouth University was founded in 1933 as Monmouth Junior College, a two-year college under Dean Edward G. Schlaefer. It was created in New Jersey during the Great Depression to provide affordable higher education to high school graduates in Monmouth County who could not afford to go away to college. The university's founders wanted to provide an opportunity for higher education to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. The junior college started out small, but it eventually grew into the university it is today.
MU offers admissions to around 60 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programmes across its 7 schools. The university's business school is accredited by the AACSB and its Software Engineering programme is the only ABET-accredited course in New Jersey. Monmouth also has six centres of distinction.
