About
Missouri State University (MSU or MO State), originally Southwest Missouri State University is a public institution in Springfield, Missouri. With 22,926 students enroled as of the fall semester of 2021, it was originally established in 1905 as the Fourth District Normal School and is now the second-largest institution in the state by enrolment. In the heart of Springfield, on 225 acres (91.1 hectares), stands the main campus of Missouri State University, which is home to approximately 40 buildings. South Holland and Kimbrough Avenues to the west, Cherry and Elm Streets to the north, Grand Street to the south, and National Avenue to the east define the area's boundaries.
You'll find the Rountree community just to the east of the school. The campus is divided by the John Q. Hammons Parkway, which runs north and south. About 15 undergraduate degrees and 13 graduate degrees, spread throughout more than 110 academic departments, are available at Missouri State. The schools of arts, humanities and public affairs, education, business management, health and human services, and natural and applied sciences, as well as the college of continuing education and the Extended University, each have roughly 47 academic departments. Twelve centres for research and services are run by the university. SMSU stands as one of the top 20 universities in the United States. The university has been recognised and ranked by some of the principal agencies and publications in the world. One such is US News and World Report of 2024, in which the uni ranked #88 in the Midwest Regional University. Similarly, it ranked #26 in the Top Public Schools list. Another list was the Top Performers on Social Mobility, ranked #122.
