McNeese State University is a public university founded in 1939 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, It was named after the reputed John McNeese who was an early local educator. McNeese is part of the University of Louisiana System and is a Master's University. It has six colleges and the Doré School of Graduate Studies. Additionally, the university also has a 121-acre main campus with 51 buildings which are called Kaufman Hall, Ralph O. Ward Memorial Gym and Francis G. Bulber Auditorium.
