About

Lamar University, also known as LU, is a public university located in Beaumont, Texas. Lamar has been a part of the Texas State University System since 1995. It served as the linchpin of the previous Lamar University System. Colleges of business, engineering, graduate studies, education and human development, fine arts and communication, and arts and sciences are all part of Lamar University. Numerous undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs in engineering and deaf education are available at the university. Facilities include the Texas Energy Museum, the Center for Coastal and Marine Studies, the Gulf Coast Hazardous Substance Research Center, and the Small Business Development Center. 

 

Lamar offers 96 undergraduate, 50 master's, and 8 doctoral degree programs across its seven academic colleges. It is in the southeast region of Beaumont, Texas, close to the U.S. As part of Lamar University's commitment to improving on-campus student life, Cardinal Village is a community of apartment-style dorms. 

 

More than 17,000 students attend Lamar University, one of the top institutions in Texas and a school with the most growth. In addition to having the lowest average tuition and fees of any system of Texas colleges, The Texas State University System, which was the state's first system of higher education, includes LU. Ranking

US News and World Report of 2024 has ranked Lamar University between #395-435 in the National Universities list. The university also appeared between the range of #212-227 in the top Public Schools list of the same educational publication. Additionally, the university was ranked #325 in Top Performers on Social Mobility

The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) published research on the requirements for the core curriculum at 715 four-year colleges in August 2010. The study compared institutions based on their dedication to the fundamental topics thought to be necessary for a competitive, well-rounded education. Only 16 institutions received an A rating, including Lamar. The Washington Post ran a piece on the findings with the slogan "Forget Harvard and think Lamar." Due to the rising enrollment, the institution said in October 2010 that entrance standards would be raised for the second time in two years.  The new enrollment requirements became effective in the fall of 2011.

When it comes to Lamar University facilities; students at the university attend classes on a beautiful 270-acre campus only one and a half hours from Houston. The university has a lot of modern facilities that are meant to make life on campus enjoyable and comfortable. More than 2,500 students reside on campus in University Housing, which features rooms designed to resemble apartments.
