Overview

About

The Diocese of Erie founded Gannon University in 1933 as the two-year Cathedral College. The institution changed its name to Gannon College of Arts and Sciences in 1944, honouring the then-Bishop of Erie, John Mark Gannon, who was instrumental in the institution's founding and growth. In 1964, the institution went coed, and in 1979, it was given university status. The university and Villa Maria College, an all-girls school established by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1925, united in 1989. The original institution's name is still used for the nursing programme at Villa Maria. The institution is divided into three main colleges: Education and Social Sciences, the College of Humanities, the College of Engineering and Business, which houses the Dahlkemper School of Business Administration; and the Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences.

Over 60 bachelor's and associate's degree programmes are available to choose from at the undergraduate level, and there are over 30 master's and doctoral degree options available at the graduate level. The fields of business, engineering, computer science, arts, education, social sciences, health professions, and sciences all provide a variety of programme possibilities. The campus in Erie, Pennsylvania is located in the centre of the city and is just six blocks from the bay that flows into Lake Erie. In addition to a wide range of leisure activities like musicals, concerts, plays, athletic events, bicycling, running, and much more, the location offers students a multitude of chances for internships, clinical experiences, co-ops, research, and more.
