About

Dallas Baptist University (DBU) is a Christian liberal arts college in Dallas, Texas. The university was originally known as Decatur Baptist College and now has campuses in Hurst, Plano, and Dallas. In Decatur, Texas, Decatur Baptist College became Dallas Baptist University in 1898. In 1897, Northwest Texas Baptist College sold the site to the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Before 1965, when it moved to Dallas at the invitation of the Dallas Baptist Association, the school had a long and rich history in Decatur. The school's 1893 Decatur Administration Building is a National Register of Historic Places-listed building. The college changed its status from junior to senior college in 1968, and in May 1970 it began awarding its first four-year Bachelor's degrees. The college's name was formally changed to DBU in 1985. The Mary C. Crowley College of Christian Faith, the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education, the College of Business, and the College of Arts and Sciences made up the new organizational design.

The student-to-faculty ratio is 13:1. They provide students with 85 undergraduate programs, 67 accelerated Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, 36 Master’s programs, and 45 dual Master’s degree programs.

The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has granted the university its accreditation. The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) has accredited the university's programs in teacher, principal, and superintendent education. The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) business degrees are offered by the College of Business, which has received national accreditation from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Facilities

There are 15 collegiate athletic teams that compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA); they are sponsored by the university's Patriot Athletic Department. DBU also provides club-level sponsorship for cheerleading and ice hockey. With the exception of the baseball team, which joined the Division I Missouri Valley Conference for the 2014 season, all teams participate at the NCAA Division II level and are members of the Lone Star Conference. The baseball team joined the Western Athletic Conference for the 2013 season despite having previously played as an independent for a number of seasons. As an auxiliary team for the Patriot Athletic Department, the Diamond Belles are also an integral part of the Patriot Athletic Department. The women's golf team captured the NCAA Division 2 National Championship in 2021. The DBU Baseball Team is still the school's top sport, and in 2021, the team participated in an NCAA Super Regional for the second time ever before losing to Virginia in Game 3.
