Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility: 

• Students must have a bachelor's degree in engineering to get admission to this program.
• Students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA.

Language Requirments:

• Students whose official language is not English are required to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores.

The following Documents are required to attend this program:
 

• Statement of Purpose: An essay or other written statement written by the student.
• Resume/CV: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work and/or volunteer experience.
• Academic Documents: Submit copies of official transcripts from post-secondary institutions attended.
• Sample of written work: Student has to write something interesting as their sample essay in the application form.
• Statement of Interest: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
• Two confidential letters of recommendation: Referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) should comment on academics and that references should submit along with the application system.

The cost of studying at Columbia University varies largely depending on the type of university and the degree chosen. At Columbia, every MS&E student is required to work on year-long consulting engagements for actual clients, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. These experiences are provided to the students as part of the year-long Operations Consulting course. As you can imagine, these experiences greatly enhance your marketability to potential employers and have led to careers in, but not limited to, Consulting, Financial Services, Technology, Advertising and Communications Media, Start-ups and more. Just some examples of student projects are pricing, operations, optimization and analytics.

It is especially notable that students from this department flourish in the Consulting environment because the training and experience encompass the quantitative and qualitative skills necessary to succeed in this dynamic field. Course work emphasizes both management and engineering perspectives in problem solving, making decisions, and managing risks in complex systems.

Each MS&E student is served by a full-time dedicated career placement officer housed in the IEOR department. The career placement officer will partner with you from the time you enter the program through to completion and beyond.
