About
Chapman University (CU) is a private research university located in Orange, California and it is categorized as one of the "R2: Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity". It has 10 schools and colleges, including the Fowler School of Engineering, Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Fowler School of Law, and Schmid College of Science and Technology. Although it makes no claims to be a Christian institution, it has ties to the United Church of Christ since 2011 and the Disciples of Christ from the institution's foundation.
Hesperian College, which was established in Woodland, California, held its first day of classes on March 4, 1861. California Christian College, which hosted classes in downtown Los Angeles, acquired the assets of Hesperian College in 1920. The institution was renamed Chapman College in 1934 in honor of C. C. Chapman, the board chairman, and the school's major donor. It relocated to its current location in the city of Orange in 1954, taking over the area that had previously been occupied by Orange High School, which had moved. In 1958, Chapman started the Residence Education Center Program to help out the military. Then in 1991, Chapman College was renamed to its current name.

Chapman University has shown excellence by securing 801–1000 spot on the global scale.CU was transferred from the Master's-level universities in the Western area to the National Universities group, with a debut rating at the 125th position in the US News & World Report's 2020 rankings of the best colleges in America. The change in classification came about as a result of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education elevating Chapman to R2 status in acknowledgment of its significant research activity.
