Fresno State was established in 1911 as the Fresno State Normal School. The present-day Fresno City College was the first campus. FCC acquired the former campus and relocated there after the university moved to its current location in the city's northeast in 1956. The institution became officially known as California State University, Fresno, in 1972. Even after altering its name to "California State University, Fresno," the institution has long been referred to simply as "Fresno State,", especially in the athletic community. 

 

The university includes a planetarium, vineyards for raisins and wine grapes, and a business winery where students have created wines that have won more than 300 awards since 1997. Acceptance Rate
