Overview

About

The California State Assembly founded California State University – East Bay (CSUEB) in 1957 as the State College for Alameda County. With just 25 professors and 293 students, courses began at Cherryland's Sunset High School in 1959. In the autumn of 1963, the institution relocated to its current campus, and in 2005 it received its current name. The university is now accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The university includes three campuses in California's San Francisco East Bay region: Hayward, Oakland, and Concord. Each location has a top-notch infrastructure and offers a variety of benefits to students.

The institution is a member of the 23-campus California State University system, and it offers 136 undergraduate and 60 post-baccalaureate programs. It has about 14,000 students and 863 faculty members, 358 (41%) of whom are on the tenure track as of Fall 2021. The Solar Energy Project at the institution is also well-known. Solar panels were placed on four campus rooftops and are utilised to create extra electricity during peak hours, making it one of Northern California's largest photovoltaic systems.

The university was one of the first CSUs to implement an online teaching program, and about 20% of tuition is offered through online or hybrid courses. More than half of the student population takes at least one online or hybrid course, and the institution has gained recognition for its online offerings from sources such as bestschools.com and affordablecollegesonline.org. CSUEB has graduated over 100,000 students, including Major League Baseball umpire Ted Barrett, graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang, California State Senator Ellen Corbett, and poet George Barlow.

CSUEB is made up of four colleges that provide programs in over 100 educational fields such as business, economics, marketing, education, allied science, psychology, hospitality, tourism, management, and communication, among others. It also works with a number of overseas universities to give its students the opportunity to engage in student exchange and study abroad programs. Professional development and employment prospects in Silicon Valley and Northern California are available to students at the university. The school is well-known for its award-winning programs, excellent instructors, small courses, and highly individualised learning environment.

Admission

Acceptance Rate

California State University - East Bay acceptance rate is 96%. With such an accessible admission policy, the university opens its doors to a vast majority of applicants. While a 96% acceptance rate suggests relatively uncompetitive entry requirements, admittance does not guarantee an easy path to graduation. Students still need to have adequate preparation to thrive academically despite the open admissions standards.

This school had a high acceptance rate, admitting 82% of applicants during the 2021-2022 academic year. Its retention rate was 80%, with four out of five full-time students from Fall 2020 persisting to Fall 2021. However, the six-year graduation rate stood at 48% for first-time students. This graduation rate may not fully capture outcomes for the likely sizable adult learner population beyond traditional first-time students. Overall, the accessible admission standards contrast with moderate retention and graduation rates.
