Bluffton University is a private, liberal arts university located in Bluffton, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1899 as Central Mennonite College and is affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA.

 

Bluffton University is authorised by the Ohio Board of Regents to award bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, master of arts in education, master of arts in organisational management, and master of business administration degrees. Bluffton University is an affiliate of the North Central Association and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, as well as The Higher Learning Commission. Bluffton students are not invigilated during exams.. H.W. Berky, a chemistry professor, invented the honour system in 1918 after borrowing the concept from his undergraduate studies at Princeton University.

Facilities

The university campus encompasses 234 continuous acres of rolling land, some of which is covered by a natural forest. The main campus's 60-acre property is home to academic and residential facilities, a student centre, and athletics. Musselman Library, College Hall, and Centennial Hall are among the almost 15 significant structures on campus. There are more than 40 extracurricular organisations in which students can participate. It also has student clubs such as the Art Club, the English Club, and others. Other facilities include -

 

On-campus Residence - There are six residential halls on campus where students reside which are Bren-Dell Hall, Hirschy Annex, Hirschy Hall, Neufeld Hall, Ramseyer Hall and Ropp Hall. The university has made it mandatory that undergraduates who do not live in the state with their families must live on campus. Nearly 95% of UG students choose on-campus housing. Residential students can choose from three different meal options. Only commuting students have access to an additional plan. 

 

Library - Musselman Library is the primary library of the university. The library houses a collection of over 200,000 items, including books, journals, newspapers, DVDs, and other materials in various formats. It offers a range of services to support the academic and research needs of the university community, including access to online databases and research tools, interlibrary loan services, and assistance with research and reference questions. 


Cafeteria - Dining services at the university are provided by Sodexo and can be found at Bob’s Place and Marbeck’s Commons. There are a bunch of meal plans which students can avail of along with changing menus at the cafeterias. The chefs here are mindful of the variety of dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free. Students can buy meals here with the help of IDs provided or with Beaver Bucks which are an alternative to cash placed in the student's ID.

It is a fairly small institution with over 1000 students admitted each year with an acceptance rate of just 75%.
