Barton College was founded in 1902 as Atlantic Christian College by the North Carolina Christian Missionary Convention. The college was named after Kinsey Seminary, a women's school that had closed its doors the previous year. Barton College remains affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Today, Barton College is a four-year liberal arts college with over 1,300 students. The college offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, including business, education, nursing, and the liberal arts.
