Alaska Pacific University (APU) is a private university located in Anchorage. It was founded as Alaska Methodist University in 1957. Alaska Pacific University was given a new name in 1978, although it is still connected to the United Methodist Church. The Alaska Native Medical Centre and the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) are both close to the main campus.
