About
The Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) is an academic department at the University of Warwick, UK. It is a leading research and education centre focused on advanced technologies, engineering and manufacturing. It is located at the University of Warwick on the edge of Coventry and Warwickshire and has over 2,500 postgraduate students and more than 650 studying full-time. Kumar Bhattacharyya formed the Warwick Manufacturing Group in 1980. Its initial endeavour was a part-time master's degree for senior industrial workers that combined technology and management as a single subject and was taught in modules at a specially constructed residential facility.
WMG has generated over £80 million in revenue for the University of Warwick since 1997, and the commercial ties formed as a result of the programmes have allowed the Group to grow into a significant manufacturing research centre. It has had a substantial impact at the regional, national, and international levels in the UK, with examples including the Premium Automotive Skills programme, Network Rail manager training, and senior management training in Chinese state-owned firms. With its early focus on automotive and aircraft, the Group has expanded into a variety of industries, including financial services (RBS Group), mining (UK Coal), pharmaceutical (GSK), and house building (Westbury Homes).
WMG offers programmes in engineering for undergraduates (in conjunction with the School of Engineering). Warwick Manufacturing group courses offered at the full-time undergraduate level include:

Ranking
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh awarded WMG with the ‘Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education’ at Buckingham Palace in 2009. This honourable award is only given to those institutions that could create a significant impact in UK’s higher education scene. Since it only is a department at the University of Warwick, its master’s and research programmes are not ranked by publications online. Placements
Students will be offered internship at a manufacturing company as part of the Warwick Manufacturing Group placement programme and will be supervised by a member of the WMG staff who is an expert in their field. They will have the opportunity to investigate a real-world business challenge with the supervisor and the company. This experience will allow them to learn a variety of new skills while also putting theory into practice. Projects in which interns will be involved include the Robotics & Automation Project, Productivity Improvement & Process Streamlining, Polymer Processing and Polymer Characterisation.
