The University of South Wales, formerly known as the University of Glamorgan, was founded in 2013. The institute's mission was to educate tradespeople and workers. The title of the University of Wales was bestowed upon it by the Privy Council in 2014. In 2013, the University of Wales and the University of Glamorgan joined forces to form this university. This university now offers over 500 courses to students.

Sports facilities: The university's Treforest Sports Park is open all year and offers over 28 classes per week during the school year, ranging from hot Yoga to kettlebells. There are six badminton courts in the main hall, and the gym has over 50 cardiovascular exercise machines as well as weight training equipment.
