In the REF 2021, 77% of the research that UOP presented was classified as world-leading or internationally good, with significant effects on society, health, culture and the environment. In terms of research strength, the university is placed third among all British universities founded after 1992.
UOP was granted Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The university was internationally ranked in the top 150 new institutions in Times Higher Education World Rankings 2019 and the top 500 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020. According to the 2019 Natwest Student Living Index, UOP is in the top 10 cities in the UK for students in terms of cost of living.
UOP has improved significantly from its previous ranking by rising in its position to the top. For the past five years, QS (Top Universities) has consistently ranked Portsmouth in the top 600-650 of all universities worldwide. The university has a high standing among UK universities; both The Complete University Guide and The Guardian have placed UOP in the top 100 institutions of higher learning in the country.
