Our Biomedical Sciences (Cancer Biology) MSc has been designed to provide knowledge of aspects of cancer. Improved global life expectancy has resulted in a cancer epidemic. It is recognised that early and accurate diagnosis is an essential aspect of the administration of increasingly expensive and tailored cancer treatment care plans. Modern diagnostic pathways and treatments are in turn informed by research.

The Biomedical Sciences (Cancer Biology) MSc course has been devised to provide knowledge of key aspects of this important area of disease.

You'll become familiar with the genetic and cellular changes occurring in both solid and blood-borne cancers, the current and emerging technological approaches for diagnosis of the disease and the effect of pertinent cellular changes on patient prognosis. Studies on populations and the influence of genotypic variation will ensure that you are able to make sense of cancer statistics.

You can tailor your course by selecting from a menu of option modules and undertaking a research project in an area ranging from molecular through to cellular or tissue-based aspects of cancer.

Course Content
Course structure

To be awarded the MSc in Biomedical Sciences (Cancer Biology), you'll need to study modules for 180 credits. If you choose to take the Postgraduate Project, you'll study five core modules and three options. The Postgraduate Project may be exchanged with the Extended Postgraduate Project (subject to prior agreement with the Course Leader and the proposed subject supervisor). In this case, you'll take five core modules and two option modules.

Entry Requirement
A minimum of a lower second class honours degree (2:2) in biomedical sciences or a closely related discipline. Professional qualification of equivalent status and associated work experience or an equivalent qualification deemed suitable by the course team.

If your first language is not English you should have an IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in writing.

Applicants are required to submit one academic reference. If part-time and intending to do your project in the workplace, an additional letter of support from your employer is required.
