Course structure

The course incorporates an agency media LAB approach to learning through knowledge sharing and project completion which is pragmatic and hands-on by underpinning problem solving methodologies and practice. The goal is the production of digital stories, interactive factual narratives and interactive formats of communication via iteration and collaboration.
 

Testing and user experience is taken into consideration at each step of the creative process. You'll be encouraged to work in ways that rewards experimenting, building and refining ideas. We expect a mixed cohort, some yet to enter industry, others looking to bolster their careers or change direction and we therefore encourage a wisdom of crowds method in learning at a peer level. In doing so, you'll feel part of a creative community that will support you when needed, and may serve you as a network at the end of the course.
 

By the end of the year you should reach a level of expertise to create innovative digital and interactive storytelling contents, having acquired a solid knowledge of the field, consolidated a multi-skilled network of people and developed digital prototypes of your ideas.  At the end of the course, you’ll present your major project, the culmination of your work on the course, to a panel of experts (course tutors, industry guests). The aim is to give you the confidence and necessary material to take your project on after the course and present it to potential backers and funders.

A minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1) or a lower second class honours degree (2:2) and substantial relevant work experience. Applicants' degrees should be in an area of digital, journalism, photography, design, interactivity or visual media. Students with other first degrees will be considered, but will be required to show evidence that they possess some knowledge of, and a practice in digital storytelling or design. Applicants will either be interviewed, set an assignment or request to submit a portfolio.
 

If your first language is not English you should have an IELTS 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each element.
 

Applicants are required to submit one academic reference.

International tuition fee: £17,000 (Price per academic year)

The Digital and Interactive Storytelling LAB MA has been designed to reflect emerging storytelling modes across a spectrum of platforms, giving you a wide range of storytelling skills to become an expert in the market. 
 

The course is mainly geared at giving you the right support and methodology to develop your interactive project during the course. The critical awareness and the iterative methodology that you’ll gain will then serve you to remain competitive in the digital creative industries you might enter in the future, regardless of the technologies they use.
