MSc Information Technology

Our MSc in Information Technology (IT) is a specialisation-rich programme that aims to provide a transformational experience to its students, by integrating the technological and business aspects of modern IT.
 

Our course consists of a combination of core and specialisation-option modules. Please note that specialisations are offered subject to demand.
 

For the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) stage, you will study the following core modules:

• Business Computer Networks (core, 20 credits)
• Database Design (core, 20 credits)
• Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (core, 10 credits)
• Ethics for the IT Professional (core, 10 credits)
   

To complete the PgDip stage, you will select a further 60 credits from a selection of modules. In addition to ‘Research Design and Methods (optional, 10 credits) you can choose from the following:
 

Database & Analytics Theme

• Oracle Database Development (optional, 20 credits)
• Technologies for Business Intelligence (optional, 10 credits)
• Data Warehouse Environment (optional, 20 credits)
   

Web Theme

• Web Development (optional, 20 credits)
• Dynamic Web Applications (optional, 20 credits)
   

Networking Theme

• Wireless Networking (optional, 20 credits)
• Internet of Things (IoT) and Applications (optional, 20 credits)
   

 eBusiness Theme

• Mobile Business Technology and Design (optional, 20 credits)
   

Modern Computing Theme

• Interactive Design for Smart Devices (optional, 10 credits)
• Emerging Topics in Computing (optional, 10 credits)
   

Successful completion of the PgDip allows you to proceed to the master's module:

• MSc IT Project Dissertation (60 credits)

Academic Requirements

An Honours degree from any area other than IT or computing, or equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications.
 

For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level. The qualifications below must have been gained within two years of the start of your course.
 

General English language requirements at UWS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training)

• no sub-test less than 5.5

Upon completion, you can seek a job as an IT Consultant, IT Systems Developer, e-Business Specialist, Information Officer, Information Systems Manager, Database Developer, Business Analyst or Data Analyst.
