MSc Civil Engineering

Our technical MSc programme provides the knowledge and skills for supporting the delivery of construction projects whilst minimising the impact on the natural environment. It will advance your knowledge to support your career progression within consulting and contracting organisations whilst satisfying the learning requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
 

For the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) stage, you will study the following core modules:

• Advanced Structural Analysis (core, 10 credits)
• Applied Finite Element Analysis (core, 10 credits)
• Advanced Geotechnical Engineering (core, 10 credits)
• Advanced Materials for Sustainable Construction (20 credits)
• Civil Engineering Project Scheme Design (core, 20 credits)
• Engineering Project Management (core, 20 credits)
• Civil Engineering Project Design (core, 20 credits)
• Research Design & Methods (core, 10 credits)
   

Successful completion of the PgDip (120 credits) allows you to proceed to the MSc Civil Engineering Dissertation module:

• MSc Dissertation in Civil Engineering (60 credits)
   

The MSc Dissertation is an individual research project, based on a topic of your choice and will be aligned to your career aspirations. These research projects are industry-relevant and may be supported (through funding) from the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC).

Applicants should possess at least a second class Honours degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or similar area from a recognised institution.
 

Applicants with equivalent professional qualifications or lower qualifications with appropriate professional or industrial work experience will also be considered.
 

For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level. The qualifications below must have been gained within two years of the start of your course.
 

General English language requirements at UWS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training)
