Year 1

• Developing the Student Midwife
• Anatomy and Physiology in Midwifery
• Continuum of Midwifery Care with Infant Feeding
• Skills for Midwifery Practice 1
   

Normal midwifery practice will be the focus, enabling students to learn with and from their midwifery mentors in these settings. They will observe and participate in practice which will facilitate their learning and enable them to learn from the women and families in midwifery led centres, birthing units, the community and the acute setting.
 

Year 2

• Women’s Lives
• Additional Care for Women and Newborn Infants with Complications
• Research Methods for Midwifery
• Skills for Midwifery Practice 2
   

This module will enable students to develop skills previously learned and deepen their knowledge through reflection and continued practice. They will also begin to observe and participate in higher risk non midwifery practice which may be experienced by women and babies as part of maternity care.

Year 3

• Optimising Normal Physiological Processes
• Future Midwife
• Research Project
• Skills for Midwifery Practice 3 and NIPE
   

Academic Requirements

• Applicants are expected to hold five GCSEs grade 4/C or above to include Mathematics, English and Science or equivalents.
• Please note that A-Level General Studies will not be accepted.
• For applicants whose first language is not English, but who have been living in the UK for less than 2 years (or have not lived in the UK at all), we will accept IELTS or the University of Suffolk Password test as meeting the English requirement.
• Applicants whose first language is not English, but who have been living in the UK for 2 years or more will be expected to hold GCSE English at Grade C or above, (grade 4-9 for the new GCSE) or the relevant Level 2 equivalent (if applicable).
   

Non-Academic Requirements

Any offer of a place will be subject to: 

• Successful interview
• Satisfactory Health check
• Satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
• Two satisfactory references
   

As part of the selection process, you will be expected to demonstrate good knowledge and a clear understanding of the scope of work that a midwife is required to undertake as well as the significance of the NHS Constitution and its core values.

• UK full-time tuition fee: £9,250 p.a 
• Full-time International tuition fee: £17,768 p.a (inclusive of placement fee) 

The skills and knowledge you acquire during the course can be transferrable across a range of professions within health and social care, including:

• Working as a clinical midwife in a variety of clinical settings 
• Clinical specialisms (for example drug liaison, diabetic specialist, breastfeeding specialist to name but a few)
• Education
• Management 
• Research
• Further professional development
