BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing

at University of Suffolk

The programme consists of twelve credit-bearing and three non-credit-bearing modules over the three years. Learning hours total 4,600 with a 50:50 division between theory and practice. The year is divided into three terms each of 14 weeks’ duration. Each year you will complete a 40-credit module that runs over two terms, incorporating simulated learning in the clinical simulation suite. In addition, each year contains one other 40 credit module and two 20 credit modules.
 

Each year has theoretical modules.  Year one's modules are Professional Values for Adult Nursing, Collaborative Working to Optimise Health, Fundamentals of Bio-science and Person-Centred Care.  Year two focuses on Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Research for Adult Nurses, Ethics, Law and Politics and Care of the Acutely unwell Adult. Year three has four modules; Contemporary Perspectives on Leading and Managing Care, Medicines Optimisation, Delivering Complex Care and the Dissertation.
 

Each year has a practice module which spans the whole year. Assessment takes place after each placement, with learning outcomes and skills aligned to your level of study. Diagrammatic representation of the course structure is presented below.

Academic Requirements
 

Applicants are required to hold five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above to include Mathematics and English (or equivalent)
 

For applicants whose first language is not English, but who have been living in the UK for less than 2 years (or have not lived in the UK at all), we will accept IELTS or the University of Suffolk Password test as meeting the English requirement.
 

Applicants whose first language is not English, but who have been living in the UK for 2 years or more will be expected to hold GCSE English at Grade C or above, (grade 4-9 for the new GCSEs) or the relevant Level 2 equivalent (if applicable).
 

Any offer of a place will be subject to: 

• Successful interview
• Satisfactory Health check
• Satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
• Two satisfactory references
   

As part of the selection process, you will be expected to demonstrate good knowledge and a clear understanding of the scope of work that a nurse is required to undertake as well as the significance of the NHS Constitution and its core values. 
 

International Requirements

IELTS 7.0 is required where English is not the student's first language.

• UK full-time tuition fee: £9,250 p.a 
• Full-time International tuition fee: £17,768 p.a (inclusive of placement fee) 

On graduation you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). This provides you with an extremely marketable and internationally recognised professional qualification, giving you the opportunity to work at home and abroad.
 

On qualification, local employment prospects are excellent. Equally, many of our graduate’s secure employment with prestigious trusts such as Addenbrookes, Royal Papworth Hospital, St. Thomas's Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.
