BA (Hons) Visual Effects and Post-Production (Film) (Progression Route)

Year 1

Dissertation: Film or TV Production (Mandatory)
This year-long module represents the culmination of students’ critical development on the course. It provides an opportunity for students to explore a chosen area of Film and TV Production. They design and carry out a sustained and coherent piece of independent research in an area of scholarship that they wish to pursue.
 

Final Project: VFX-Enhanced Production (Requisite)
This module builds on students’ knowledge of the development and post-production processes in filmmaking and is concerned with the creative and practical processes involved in their realisation. Students have the choice to develop a short drama, documentary or experimental film which is to include high-quality VFX elements, the product can be based around film/TV/animation or CGI.
 

Asset Design and Creation for Final Project (Requisite)
This module is the culmination of students’ conceptual, practical and creative development on the course. It provides an opportunity for students to design and generate ideas for the final major project and to conceptualise and form original objects and assets to be functionally realised within the Final Project.
 

Industry-Preparation Portfolio (Requisite)
This module provides an opportunity for students to develop the knowledge and skills that underpin their own creative, professional and personal self-development. This module prepares students for professional life after graduation and establishes the skills and resources needed to develop a sustainable practice and work in either a self-employed or employed capacity.

Academic Requirements

• Applicants will be expected to have gained 240 credits through Foundation degree, Higher National Diploma, Diploma of Higher Education or equivalent.
• Those applying from courses other than those offered at University of Suffolk at East Coast College may be required to attend a meeting with the course team to discuss the programme, its requirements and expectations.
• Applications from those with technical/industry qualifications and with industry experience will be considered on an individual basis, in which case the University’s Recognition of Prior Learning Policy will be applied.
• All applicants are required to hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above. Applicants who do not hold these qualifications may be considered on an individual basis based upon their overall application and the course applied for.
   

International Requirements

• IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components) where English is not the students' first language.

• UK full-time tuition fee: £9,250 p.a 
• UK part-time tuition fee: £1,454 per 20 credits (please contact the Student Centre for further information) 
• Full-time International tuition fee:  £14,598 p.a

Visual Effects are central to almost all blockbuster films and television series, from the dragons of Game of Thrones to the gravitational lensing of the black hole in Interstellar. It is one of the fastest growing industry sectors, both in the UK and abroad.
 

There is currently a shortage of skilled creatives in the CGI and VFX industries, so once you gain your degree, the chances of employment in the industry are good – though getting on the first rung of the ladder can still be challenging.
 

Salaries can be high compared to production jobs like camera operators and producers where supply outstrips demand. Visual Effects graduates have a range of transferable skills that can be applied to many varied roles.
 

This is a vibrant and expanding industry to work in, and may take you across the world during your career.
