About

The University of Nottingham was established in the year 1881 and was formally opened by Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany. It is a public research university and part of the Russell Group association. The university has had notable lecturers over the years such as Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, etc. The university now has two main campuses in the UK known as the University Park Campus and the Jubilee Campus apart from the international campuses in Malaysia and China. The Semenyih Campus in Malaysia was the first branch to be established abroad by a UK based institute, which resulted in an award by the Queen. There are other campuses devoted to medicine too, The City Hospital Campus, the Sutton Bonington Campus, Queen's Medical Centre, Royal Derby Hospital, and Nottingham City Hospital. Finally, the King's Meadow Campus focuses on Manuscripts and Special Collections which has started collections since the 1930s.

 

Nottingham’s alumni are well-renowned and highly reputable, with 3 Nobel prize winners, Turner prize winners, etc. With the city being greatly influenced by sports, there were students from the university that took part in the 2012 London Olympics.

 

The student union at Nottingham are highly involved in the collaboration of students with the societies. There are currently 190 societies and 76 more affiliated towards sports. This also includes a university radio station called the University Radio Nottingham. The Univerity of Nottingham student union has many volunteering services all around the year to help boost student life and the local community.

Ranking

The university has a legacy of being among the top ranks not only in UK but also among world universities for many years. A large number of alumni of the university are among the CEOs of the largest 500 companies and is ranked 2nd for this in UK. As a result it is UK 2nd most targeted university by top UK employers as stated by The Graduate Market for the year 2022. The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide has ranked the university as the sports university of the year for 2021. Research Excellence Framework has declared that 51% of the university’s research is ‘world leading’. A ranking by the Complete University Guide in 2019 had around 19 of the university’s programmes in the top 10. Acceptance Rate

The University of Nottingham acceptance rate is 36%. This means that only 36 students are accepted from among 100 applications.
