The Core Year One Syllabus Comprises Modules That Must Be Studied In Order To Pass Through The Academic Stage Of The Route To Practice, Known As The ‘Foundations Of Legal Knowledge’. The Remaining Modules Are Undertaken To Introduce You To The English Legal System And Basic Legal Study And Research Skills.

Year Two

The Core Year Two Syllabus Comprises The Remaining Modules That Must Be Studied In Order To Pass Through The Academic Stage Of The Route To Practice, Known As The ‘Foundations Of Legal Knowledge’. The Remaining Module, ‘Law And Social Justice’, Allows Students To Acquire And Practice Advanced Legal Research Skills By Exploring The Law’S Capacity To Effect Social Change.

Year Three

Year Abroad

You are required to spend the year abroad on an approved placement at a European or overseas partner institution.
 

Year Four

All year four optional modules are 15 credits each, except for dissertation (semester one and two) which is 30 credits. Most year four optional modules are taught via ‘blended learning’ methods, utilising weekly lectures (2 hours per week), seminars (either 60 minutes each bi-weekly or 90 minutes three times during a semester), optional drop-in sessions during office hours, independent legal research, e-learning strategies and formative assessments.

Most year four optional modules are assessed on a summative basis via examination, coursework or a combination of both.

Academic Requirements
 

• Successful completion of examinations at standard X and XII (Higher Secondary School Certificate) with minimum marks of approximately 70 to 85%, according to the course and exam board.
   
• All our programs are between the range of English A level grades of AAA – BBB. To see how Indian State board results and STD XII ISC/CBSE results are compared to English A level grades, for purposes of making an offer, please see the table below.
• The percentage will be based on the aggregate of the best of 4 core subjects (including English).
• Please note: Sometimes your offer will be made on condition of you achieving an overall score in your XII standard exams, while some programmes will ask for specific scores in certain subjects. As such, any subject-specific requirements will reflect the overall percentage required (eg. 85% in best four subjects, including 85% in Maths), along with the individual score for each subject.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

To study at the University of Liverpool, you’ll need to demonstrate you can speak English. If you need a visa to study in the UK, evidence of competency in English is required to secure your visa.

WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES
 

We organise regular careers events and routinely play host to law firms who wish to come and meet our students. There is an annual law fair, giving students the opportunity to meet future legal employers. Academic staff in the Law School and Careers & Employability also offer invaluable careers advice and support. Every year, our students become members of the Inns of Court, secure scholarships for vocational training, and obtain vacation placements, training contracts, and mini-pupillage opportunities from a range of providers.
 

Undergraduate students can develop their legal skills through a number of extracurricular activities, such as mentoring by members of the legal profession, mooting, and negotiation competitions. There are four student legal societies which cater for the diverse career trajectories of our students and host lively extracurricular and enrichment activities.
 

We also help our students to take advantage of work experience placements with organisations like the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Asylum Link, Merseyside Welfare Rights, and other pro-bono service providers.
 

We broker a range of placement opportunities, typically offering students the chance to spend two or three weeks during the vacation period working within an international law firm or alongside in-house lawyers in major commercial companies. We also offer a number of year-long placements in China to students on a competitive basis.

The Law Clinic gives many students their first taste of professional practice: students work under the supervision of a lawyer, meeting clients, researching legal problems, and drafting advice. Confidentiality, clear communication, and client satisfaction are all emphasised as essential elements of the Clinic’s service. This helps students experience the practical aspect of law whilst contributing towards their degree through the completion of practically-assessed modules.
